Give Thanks - Support Solar in Oregon!
During this season of giving please support OSEIA’s sister organization – the Oregon Solar Energy Education Fund OSEIA’s board created the Solar Education Fund in 2019 and it’s had a great first two years!
Support the Solar Education Fund today with a tax-deductible donation from you or your business!
Creating a more diverse and equitable solar workforce
In Oregon the solar workforce is 80% male and 90% white – that doesn’t reflect or serve our community and needs to change. To begin this important work, the Solar Education Fund held a training program last year in coordination with Oregon Tradeswomen, to introduce women to solar.
In 2020 the Solar Education Fund joined eight community groups to start planning for a comprehensive program to make the solar workforce more accessible to women and people of color. We’re also teaming up with Constructing Hope, an organization that trains formerly incarcerated people to work in the construction trades, to host solar trainings in 2021.
Increasing access to solar through regulations
Governor Brown’s Climate Executive Order opened the door for faster greenhouse gas emission reductions in Oregon. The Solar Education Fund advocated at multiple agency processes to ensure that the Governor’s order is carried out in a way that makes clean solar energy as accessible as possible.
We’re proud to announce that our advocacy efforts worked! Not only did the Oregon Public Utility Commission take our suggestion to explore having electric vehicle demand be met by renewable energy, but they will also investigate creating solar “microgrids” to keep the lights on when Oregon communities are hit by wildfires.
Support the Solar Education Fund today!
