Update from the Capitol 5.16.19

It’s the final six weeks of legislative session and things are heating up in the Oregon Capitol.  After the Oregon House passed a new corporate tax to fund schools, Senate Republicans walked out, delaying a Senate vote on the tax bill. The Senate struck a deal – in order to allow the tax bill for a vote, a pro-vaccine bill and a gun violence prevention bill would have to die.  The tax bill passed the Senate and is on its way for the Governor’s signature.  It’s great news that the tax bill passed – not only will Oregon’s schools finally have adequate funding, but also the bill’s passage clears the way for other bills to move forward.

Docket Number UM 1930 - OPUC Memo on Stakeholder Engagement

The PUC just released the below memo regarding the stakeholder engagement process/strategy. A webinar will be held on May 10 to provide more information.

Within the memo there's a link to this "engagement site," where you can register your email to receive future communications regarding stakeholder engagement associated with the program implementation. The site hosts general information on engagement and provides opportunities to submit input to survey responses.

OSEIA seeks to surmount land-use challenges

OSEIA is partnering with Renewable Northwest to find solutions to several land use challenges. For projects going through the Energy Facility Siting Council (EFSC) process, it is expensive, time consuming, and requires unnecessary studies for noise, volcanoes and earthquakes. OSEIA supports HB 2329 which would raise the size of project required to go through EFSC and allow projects to choose the county or EFSC route.
